Words can heal a disagreement or make it worse. The Prophet ﷺ taught believers to speak what is good or remain silent, highlighting the responsibility attached to speech. This is not a command to hide harm, refuse to report bullying or remain silent when someone needs our truthful testimony. It calls for useful, accurate and respectful language.
In a class chat we should check a rumour before reposting, avoid sarcasm aimed at hurting another person and refrain from circulating private screenshots. If we have already spoken harshly, we apologise and correct the false claim. A small pause before sending a message can protect friendships and prevent damage that is difficult to reverse.
