Mercy is noticing vulnerability and responding with care. Justice means giving others their due without favouritism, while strength includes the courage and self-control needed to act rightly. The Prophet ﷺ taught that true strength is not simply defeating others physically, but controlling oneself when angry. A strong person can defend a weaker pupil without humiliating anyone or turning the situation into revenge.
Consider a game in which a popular player breaks the rules and a younger child is blamed. Mercy asks whether the child is frightened; justice asks us to correct the unfair accusation; self-control keeps our response calm. We seek adult help if someone is unsafe. These qualities reinforce rather than cancel one another.
