Islam teaches us to seek food that is halal and tayyib: permitted and wholesome. The Qur’an identifies prohibited foods and gives principles for the treatment of animals and lawful slaughter. Food labels and the origin of ingredients matter, especially when meat or unfamiliar additives are involved. Not every question can be answered by a simple symbol on packaging; conditions and scholarly interpretations may differ.
This is a conceptual lesson, not an instruction for children to handle knives or perform slaughter. We learn to ask responsible questions, treat animals with kindness, prevent waste and consult a trusted teacher or guardian about doubtful food. Respectful disagreement matters: never mock another family’s carefully considered practice. At a shared meal, we also check cleanliness and the needs of guests. For a fuller primary-text discussion of prohibited food categories, a teacher can compare Qur’an 5:3 with the lawful-and-wholesome principle in 5:88.
