A Hadith is a transmitted report of something attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, such as a statement, action, approval or description. Sunnah refers to his guidance and normative example followed by Muslims. The two ideas are closely related but the words are not simply interchangeable in every scholarly discussion: Hadith studies examine transmitted reports, while scholars also study how the Sunnah establishes religious practice.
A report has a text (matn) and often a chain of transmitters (isnad). Scholars examine authenticity and interpretation rather than treating every sentence shared on a poster as a Prophetic quotation. For a beginning example, we can study an authenticated report about good manners, find its source and ask which practice it teaches, without pretending to become Hadith critics in a single class.
