Allah has perfect attributes. We learn about them from His beautiful names and from sound revelation: He knows, hears and sees without limitation. Because Allah is the Creator and not a created being, we must not imagine His attributes as copies of a human body, human senses or a creature’s weakness. The Qur’an explicitly joins His incomparability with His hearing and seeing.
Knowledge of Allah’s attributes shapes our conduct. Remembering that Allah knows what we do, including hidden intentions, encourages honesty when no one is watching. We should avoid invented descriptions of Allah and learn difficult theological expressions with a qualified teacher.
