Confidence means recognising what we can do and using our abilities well. Pride or arrogance goes wrong when we look down on people, reject a sound correction or assume our family, wealth, appearance or marks make us worth more than others. The Qur’an teaches us not to turn our faces away from people in contempt or walk boastfully. Gratitude for a talent is compatible with humility.
If we score highly in a quiz, we can thank Allah, acknowledge our teachers and encourage classmates who struggled. If someone corrects our fact, listening is a sign of strength, not weakness. We should praise effort without humiliating pupils who need extra time, and remember that every person has dignity even when their achievements differ.
