Zakat is an obligatory act of worship upon Muslims who meet its conditions. It is a right due from specified eligible wealth for designated recipients, and it helps protect people in need. It is different from voluntary sadaqah, which we can offer more widely whenever possible.
At this age we need not calculate complex financial thresholds. We can learn that money and possessions come with responsibility, that the needy deserve dignity, and that we must avoid showing off when helping others. An adult or scholar should guide us through actual zakat calculations and recipient rules.
