Qist Maktab · Islamic Studies · Class 5
In 8 AH, following the breakdown of the peace arrangement associated with Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ led the Muslims towards Makkah. The city came under Muslim control with comparatively limited fighting. An important lesson of this event is the value of discipline, the restoration of worship of Allah and restraint when one has power.
Many former opponents were treated with mercy in reports of the conquest. We should not turn the Seerah into a story of boasting over others. Instead, we learn that victory increases responsibility: protect the vulnerable, avoid revenge and give thanks to Allah. The Qur’an teaches believers to praise their Lord when His help and opening come. This section concludes our earlier broad survey of later Prophetic events. In later grades we revisit the earlier Makkan period in greater historical detail.
