The Prophet ﷺ instructed Muslims to show mercy to younger people and respect to elders. Being younger does not make someone unimportant; children deserve patience, protection and encouragement. Being older does not mean someone must always be correct, but elders should be addressed with courtesy and consideration.
We can apply this teaching by helping a younger child safely cross a busy corridor, giving someone time to finish speaking and responding politely when we disagree. Respect never requires following a harmful request. If we are unsafe, we should tell a trusted adult and seek help.
