Ghusl is the complete ritual washing of the body. It is required after certain states of major ritual impurity, and it restores the state needed for acts of worship such as salah.
Islam joins physical cleanliness with ritual purity. We use clean water, avoid wasting it and make sure water reaches the whole body properly.
