A necessary existent is one whose nonexistence is impossible, whereas a contingent existent could fail to exist. Dependency arguments ask whether a collection of contingent things explains its own existence. In Sunni theology, divine self-sufficiency means that God does not need a cause, location, material support or sustaining condition. The conclusion must not be reached simply by naming an unexplained object 'necessary'; the reasoning must establish why ultimate dependence cannot be circular or remain unexplained. Distinguish logical necessity from physical regularity and from a human feeling of certainty.
