A natural law describes stable patterns observed in creation; it is not automatically a metaphysical explanation of why the pattern exists. In occasionalist kalam accounts, God creates events and their conjunction, while human inquiry still studies regular sequences and practical causes. Other theological formulations differ in how they describe created powers and secondary causation. For example, medicine can reliably investigate how a treatment works without resolving the ultimate metaphysical status of causality. Distinguish a useful prediction, a mechanism and an account of ultimate agency.
