Nasihah means sincere goodwill, truthful guidance and concern for others' welfare. Advice should be informed, respectful and free from humiliation.
The hadith 'Religion is sincere counsel' describes nasihah as fidelity, goodwill and honest concern. It includes sincerity toward Allah and His Messenger, and constructive concern for Muslim leaders and ordinary people. Advice should be truthful and appropriately delivered; humiliating someone in public can undermine its purpose. Sincere counsel is not flattery, nor does it permit spreading private faults unnecessarily.
