The maxim 'no harm and no reciprocating harm' forbids unjust injury and guides fair decisions about neighbours, contracts and shared spaces.
The legal maxim 'la darar wa la dirar' rejects unjust harm and retaliatory harm. It informs discussion of property, neighbours, public safety and contracts. Applying it requires recognising legitimate rights and weighing consequences: a person cannot invoke 'no harm' to avoid every ordinary duty or impose a greater injury on others. The maxim works alongside other legal principles, not as a substitute for them.
