Qard is a repayable loan; a debt creates an enforceable obligation. Kafalah concerns guarantee, and rahn is pledged security; written records reduce disputes.
A qard is a loan creating an obligation to return an equivalent amount or item. A debt (dayn) is a broader obligation that may arise from loans, deferred sales or other transactions. Kafalah adds a guarantor under defined conditions, while rahn provides pledged security. Qur'an 2:282 recommends recording deferred obligations. Ethical lending involves clarity, fairness, timely repayment when able and compassion toward genuine hardship.
