Qist Maktab · Islamic Studies · Class 7
When persecution increased in Makkah, groups of Muslims sought refuge in Abyssinia (al-Habashah). The region was ruled by the Negus (al-Najashi), remembered in Islamic historical sources for justice. This migration happened before the later migration to Madinah. The travellers did not abandon their faith; they sought a safer environment in which they could practise it.
In accounts of the Muslim refugees and the king’s court, Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib is associated with explaining the message of Islam and reciting from Surah Maryam. We study the main chronology and message, while recognising that some reported speeches and dates require careful source comparison. Today the story opens a discussion about refuge, the dignity of displaced families and fair treatment across religious communities.
