Fasting in Ramadan is a major act of worship. From true dawn until sunset, an accountable Muslim observing the fast refrains from food, drink and other matters that invalidate it while intending to worship Allah. Children can learn the meaning of fasting through age-appropriate practice under parental guidance, without harming their health.
Ramadan also teaches prayer, truthfulness, generosity and self-control. Suhur and iftar bring families together, but we should avoid wasting food. A fasting person must not think that being hungry makes rude speech or unkind behaviour acceptable.
