Ontology asks what it means to exist, while createdness asks whether a thing began to exist, and dependence asks whether its existence requires another. These are different questions. A house is dependent on materials and builders, but the analogy alone cannot establish the origin of the whole universe. In kalam, an argument must state its premises, distinguish temporal origination from ontological dependence, and show how the conclusion follows. A scientific account of physical change is not automatically an answer to the metaphysical question of why contingent things exist.
