An admission (iqrar) is a person's acknowledgement of a fact or liability, while an oath and testimony play different procedural roles. The judge must assess whether an admission is voluntary, intelligible and legally relevant. A confession under coercion raises serious reliability and justice concerns. Compare a written debt acknowledgement with a witness's report and with an oath demanded during litigation. These forms of proof are not interchangeable, and their effects depend on the type of claim and the applicable fiqhi conditions.
