01

Learn the main idea

Allah's knowledge and decree encompass events, while people remain responsible for voluntary acts. Qadar cannot excuse deliberate injustice.

02

A deeper explanation

Qadar concerns Allah's knowledge, will and decree, while moral accountability concerns actions human beings choose. Classical Sunni theologians discuss acquisition, ability and the creation of acts, and they do not always formulate these relationships identically. Nevertheless, Allah's foreknowledge does not itself compel someone to steal, and human responsibility does not imply independence from divine sovereignty. Students should distinguish an action performed voluntarily from one performed under coercion and should never use predestination as an excuse for injustice.
