Memorize the six Madi–Mudari patterns.
- Compare the vowel of عين الكلمة.
- Identify a bab from its Madi–Mudari pair.
The six patterns are: a–u, a–i, a–a, i–a, u–u, and i–i on the middle root letter.
Read each bab as a pair. Do not memorize نَصَرَ alone; memorize نَصَرَ يَنْصُرُ. The relationship between the two forms is what identifies the bab.
1 — Nasara
نَصَرَ يَنْصُرُ
فَعَلَ يَفْعُلُ — a in Madi, u in Mudari.
2 — Daraba
ضَرَبَ يَضْرِبُ
فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ — a in Madi, i in Mudari.
3 — Fataha
فَتَحَ يَفْتَحُ
فَعَلَ يَفْعَلُ — a in both.
4 — Sami‘a
سَمِعَ يَسْمَعُ
فَعِلَ يَفْعَلُ — i in Madi, a in Mudari.
5 — Karuma
كَرُمَ يَكْرُمُ
فَعُلَ يَفْعُلُ — u in both.
6 — Hasiba
حَسِبَ يَحْسِبُ
فَعِلَ يَفْعِلُ — i in both.
فَعَلَ يَفْعُلُ ≠ فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ
Both have فَعَلَ in Madi, but Mudari distinguishes u from i.
Why Madi alone is not enough.فَعِلَ يَفْعَلُ ≠ فَعِلَ يَفْعِلُ
Both have فَعِلَ in Madi, but Mudari distinguishes a from i.
Again, the pair identifies the bab.A recognized pairing of Madi and Mudari patterns.
The second original letter of the root.
Fatḥa, kasra, or ḍamma on a letter.
