Classical Muslim theologians discuss reliable senses, sound reason and truthful report as avenues to knowledge. Sight and hearing inform us about observable things, but they can mislead when conditions are poor. Reason evaluates propositions and draws conclusions; testimony allows us to learn events we did not witness. Revelation, established through the evidence for prophethood, communicates truths such as detailed religious obligations and matters of the unseen. These sources should not be confused: a scientific measurement cannot by itself prescribe the number of daily prayers, and a misunderstood quotation cannot override sound reasoning without examination.
